How do I get started?
You will need to complete the steps on the Business Tax Checklist to do business in Charlotte county. For the first step, you will need to file your articles of incorporation to form your company with the State of Florida. This can be done at https://efile.sunbiz.org/profit_file.html The location of the business must be approved by the Building and Growth Management Department. This is accomplished by submitting a Certificate of Use form identified in the checklist . Are you ready to begin building your business in Charlotte County, but not sure where to start? The permitting process can be confusing, but our Community Development Department can take you through our process, step by step. Most permit forms are available on-line. You will need a Federal Tax ID Number issued through the IRS. Once obtained, the Tax Collector will issue a Business Tax Receipt (formerly Occupational Licences) for a commercial business location. The Economic Development Office offers business assistance in the way of helping to locate property, arrange meetings with appropriate staff members, or answer any questions you may have about relocating your business to Charlotte County.
